Music, magic and martial arts: an AC conversation with Ulises Beato
Today, the United State inaugurated Donald J Trump. His ascent to the most powerful elected office was nothing short of breathtaking.
Regardless of how you feel about him, it must be said that Trump understood the mental models of a large enough voting block to propel him to victory. One might think of Trump as perhaps 21st century America's most skilled political magician.
So, it's only fitting on this inauguration day that The Augmented City publishes a conversation with a real magician and more.
Ulises Beato is a Cuban-American musician, magician and martial artist. I've known him since shortly after 9/11 when a small group of us trained in traditional Japanese martial arts in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn, just as it was beginning to gentrify.
Ulises and I spoke about mental models and how we understand and manipulate them from the perspective of music, magic and the martial arts.
